CCR TASK 2

'How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?'

After a meaningful, productive conversation we came to the conclusion that our primary target audience would be male adults mainly aged 21- 25 due to our sequence being targeted towards those who seek thrill and enjoy the unexpected.

Additionally, we established the granting of a 12A age certificate, as we felt this was most suitable for our title sequence. This is highlighted through the graphic gory imagery, However there is no actual violence shown nor profanity (offensive use of language). Therefor, there is no legal reason the rating needs to be higher; by having the rating lower it enables the film to be accessible to a wider audience.

Below are two blog posts (screenshots and links) I carried out to help us underline the age certificate:

Editing- Last Few Day's

Last Few Day's Of Editing

We made a couple of choices that we changed when editing that we hadn't anticipated before hand, including the slowing down of some of the footage. During the first few days of editing we had decided to do this on certain shots, and after seeing how much clearer and strong the shots appeared we decided to edit all the shots without actors in like this.We also used the POV shot a lot more than we had expected to as we thought that it looked incredibly effective, and left the viewer with more questions wanting them to watch on.

Moreover, by leaving the viewer with this element of mystery as well as creating further tension, this long meaningful POV shot which hid the perspective from the audience, also left a huge question of whom the killer is. My slowly showing the audience hints that it is in fact a child's bike was a significant way of creating a sense of a thriller/drama genre as-well as creating suspense. Additionally, by also showing blood before making clear it is a Childs bike helped to build the tension and construct and deathly atmosphere.

The use of the sound track, was most definitely what brought the whole sequence together. The sound track used was:

Through using this soundtrack it helped hugely with creating tension and mystery. We tried to match up the music with the action on the screen. An example, being when coming towards the end of the sequence the screen went to black, here the last loud beat erose. Then when the final title appeared the music started to  slowly fade out. By ending the sequence fading to black as well as the music fading out, this is ironic as it reflects the death that is confirmed once the film commences. We were very lucky to have found the soundtrack we did as we had struggled for several h
ours on finding music that we felt was right. We had found one we loved prior to this one, however our sequence is over 2 minutes where as the music was just under. It took us far less time that some groups to finish of doing everything to do with sound this is because other than a soundtrack we did not use any sort of diegetic music so the soundtrack was all we needed to deal with.

All of the things talked about above all help to keep our targeted audience watching, due to the editing choices making clear it is in fact a thriller/drama and building the tension we wished to produce.  Through the use of  titles, both the font and colour helped to reflect the genre. By using the colour white it gave a sense of purity and ghostly feel reflecting the child whom had died.

To conclude I am so happy with the way our title sequence has come together and feel that the narrative has clearly been perceived by the audiences. If doing the editing process again the only thing I would do differently would be to spend less time on the titles leaving more time which is needed for sound.
