Call sheet

This call sheet, minus the emails and numbers for privacy reasons, will be extremely helpful on the lead up and shoot day.

Shoot day Schedule

Below I have  attached our shoot day schedule, which is a break down of the day and timings, including when actors arrive and leave. This ensures we keep on track and get everything we need filmed.

Deciding Who Is Playing Which Role Of Production

Today over teams (due to the storm having cut the water supply at school) we spoke as a group and decided who was going to be in charge of which Role Of Production.

These include:
- Director

-  Producer

- Camera person

- Art Director

- Editor

Although all planning on contributing and helping with all aspects we decided that:

- Grace- Editor

- Myself- Director

- Freya- Camera person

- With the Art Director and Producer being carried out equally by us all.

Media Production works around social collaboration, this makes it vital theirs a division in work. - You need specialised skills to help manufacture the correct shots and getting the right genre conventions and tone to the opening sequence.

Research Into My Role Of Production

Research Into The Role Of A Director

Directors are seen as the 'creative leads of the Film', they help to guide the technical crew as well as the actors to make the producers vision come alive on screen. They are in charge and control all the creative and dramatic aspects of the film. When carrying out the role of director it will be vital to sure the technical crew and actors know what they need to do in order to bring our groups vision alive.

Before our shoot i must take into consideration where the actors are placed, positioned and what exactly they are doing and block everything before shooting.
I must make sure we have both our shot list and story board printed, so we have it in hand on the day of shooting, which will enable things to be far smoother due to it being clear what we need to do.

The role of the director is extremely important, this is for several reasons. Not just because they must shout 'cut' and 'action' but also because they must make some of the films major decisions. This is due to them instructing the majority of people on set, that being members of the crew, lighting, makeup etc.

One thing that i believe could appear slightly difficult on the day of shooting will be us making sure we have enough shots to  fill up the entirety of the two minutes. This was seen clear when carrying out our test shoot and therefor it has been made clear that although having planned to cary out far more shots. We should most definitely film more rather than the needed amount.

Foley Sound

 Explanation Of Foley Sound

Foley sound is created by using day to day objects in order to create exceptional sound effects  Foley sound is a technique used by recording audio that matches as well as syncs up to the on-screen action bringing the scene alive, and making it appear realistic.
Foley sound is named after 'jack Foley' who invented this technique, examples of this technique include chewing, keys jingling, a door opening, twisting and thousands more.
This sound is created by a sound artist whom mimics the sound in the recording  studio.

Below ive embedded a video which explains and helped me understood Foley sound further:

Props- Organising and purchasing Of Bike

Purchasing Of Bike

When looking into what bike to purchase i had to consider several things including, the age of the child, the price and the appearance. I started off by looking on eBay however the majority were at least 50 pounds which seemed silly when we were planning on destroying it. I then was discussing this with my mum and concluded that it would be a good idea to look on the facebook market.

There were a wide range of little boys Bikes being sold for cheap prices all within the price of 30 pounds or less. After finding several potential options I got in contact with several of the sellers whom were around my area to see if they were still looking to sell it.

After showing the group the ones I had found,  our top choices were the two bikes below due to them being the correct size teh right appearance, however neither sellers got back to me in time:

Due to getting no response in 2 days I looked at other options and found one that was only going for 5£, and managed to get in contact with the seller, coincidently the seller was extremely close to where i live so it turned out for the best.

Due to the lady living fairly close I was able to drive round and pick it up in just 20 minutes, she also refused to take any money due to her just wanting to get rid of it. The bike was perfect size and had stabilisers which we could keep or take of.

Props- Fake Blood

Fake Blood

Although we can make our own fake blood we decided as a group it would also be best to order some to ensure we will have some which is both seen as realistic and reliable.

I searched up fake blood but most seemed to be unrealistic and be more for fancy dress rather than to be used in film.

After doing some research I found a company called Red Carpet Fx which has a variety of makeup, face paint etc. Specialised for fancy dress, film and performances. Here I discovered stage Fake blood, it is made for performances on stage however after reading the reviews it was seen clear that it was far more realistic than fake blood which is sold with a simple, cheap search.

It only took around a week to reply which was reasonable.

Props- Organising and purchasing of Handcuffs

 Handcuffs

I researched how police hand cuffs appeared and tried my best to find some that replicated real ones the best.

Below shows the ones i bought, I came to the conclusion these were the best replicate due to them being plain and silver.

I decided to order 2 pairs just incase there was a fault with one on set.

I ordered them on Amazon prime, consequently they arrived the following day after ordering, which ensured we would have no issues with the worry of not being able to source them in time for the shoot.

Props and Costumes- Organisation

Today we wrote a list of props and costumes needed for our opening title sequence, and spoke about whom is going to be providing what.

We then highlighted who is going to be buying what in a way that is fair in regards to money as well as difficulty to find.

Below is a picture of the piece of paper which we planned this on:

In regards to these resources we are going to try source them all over the next week, ready for our shot day which has now been confirmed to be on Wednesday 16th of March.

Casting- Response from 'Woman'

We are lucky enough to have got a response from our first choice confirming she can do it, however we cannot have her for the whole day but she is good for a few hours which is perfect.

Casting- Potential 'Woman'

In regards to the casting of the mother, we are looking for someone whom is fairly strong at acting due to it being a very dramatic role. Appearance wise we would like the woman to be middle aged resembling a mother.

Are first choice of the actor we believe would be perfect is:

Casting- Contacting potential Police

We have now sent emails to our potential cast for the roles of Police Men and Forensics. We are now awaiting the response.

Potential Cast- Police men

Today we established whom we are going to ask to play the police men and also double up and play forensics. We realised that we could double up on these characters due to the forensics faces not actually being seen.

We would like our cast for the Police men to consist of:

Due to us only being able to use A1's because the A2's are working towards  there A level's we decided that we are going to only use teachers due to all are characters being middle aged and it will not look right and will appear wrong if we use an A1.

Location- Birds eye view/ Face on

Today, as a group we decided to create a rough sketch of what are set would appear like on location as shown below:

This was beneficial as it helped us all picture, as well as become certain of the shots we are going to take, as well as the positioning of our set in regards to the driveway.

Location- Asking Permission

Asking Permission To Use Cornhill Manor As Our Location

Today, we texted my House Master Doug asking if Cornhill would be available for use, when filming our Opening Title Sequence:

Fortunately, he got back to us promptly and is happy for us to do so. Which is extremely lucky due to this having been our first choice of location. Now we have had the green light we can plan accordingly. Getting hold of this location was an extremely positive and helpful thing due to it hopefully making the day flow a-lot smother. Due to a number of reasons including:

- More time to film because location close.

- Maximum 10 minutes to get there.

- Not needing to be quite due to it being a large property, with little really near by.

- Due to living there we can plan whats going where before shoot day.

- Toilets and kitchen on site

Location- Back Up

 Back up location- BWEBB

We came to a conclusion that we must have a Back up location if our first choice of 'Cornhill manor' falls through. We discussed what options we had and decided that the most practical option would be to use another one of the off campus boarding houses, due to them all being fairly near by resulting in us having much more time to get on with the filming of our Opening Title Sequence.

Firstly, we thought the boarding house Ewhurst was a potential option, however we all came to the decision that it wasn't suitable or right due to it appearing like a castle. After some consideration we decided Bwebb would appear correct, due to like 'Cornhill' it being a manor and also appearing to be a wealthy family home. It is proximally only 9 minutes away from Hurtwood House.

Location- Where/ The issues we may have with weather

Location- Where And The Issues We May Have

Our ideal LOCATION- 'CORNHILL MANOR'
Today, we discussed where we would like to film Our Opening Title Sequence, We concluded that our group all are happy and wish to film at Cornhill Manor. Which is located in Cranleigh at GU6 7PJ, which is approximately only 6 minutes drive away from the main school. Therefor will not take up any crucial time needed to set up, film etc.

This location will be extremely beneficial for our group due to it resembling and appearing to be a wealthy family home, as well as having an extremely long drive way, similar to what we pictured when talking about location and setting. Cornhill is also one of Hurtwood's boarding houses, where both myself and Grace live during the week. So hopefully it will be likely that we can get permission for it.

Below is a picture of the property:

There are several things in regards to the weather that may negatively effect our Sequence. Due to filming in Late February- March it is uncertain of the weather that could occur on the day. Therefor we need to be prepared for anything that could come our way. Therefor, im going to carry out a  small amount of research into how to film in some weather conditions, most importantly in rain and snow. This is what I found:

Rain and Snow-  As mentioned in https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/9-tips-for-shooting-video-in-the-rain/
The 9 tips for shooting in rain (similarly in snow) consist of:
- Getting a Rain Cover.
- You can improvise a rain cover- eg- plastic ziplock bag.
- Use a lens hood.
- Don't touch lens with t shirt if it gets wet, use a microfiber.
-  Prepare for bad audio- Although in reference to our Opening Title Sequence this will not matter due to all the sound being placed on when editing.
- Wipe of all your gear after filming.- Nearly all professional film equipment is water resistance, so it most likely will not damage your gear immediately.
- Use battery-operated lights.
- Use Silica gel.

Why use Shot Lists

 Why Use Shot Lists

Shot lists help to ensure the production process is smooth due to the shot order being based of location and set up, rather than shots being taken in order of how the scenes appear. Shot lists both identify what is being shot, as well as act as an easy thing to give to the cast, crew, director, cinematographer and the rest of the crew in order to ensure everyone is on the same page and know what is going on.
